The Department of Health and Human Services has released the “Social housing and specialist homelessness services additional service delivery data 2015-16”.
The figures show in detail what we already know. Public housing tenants and those on the waiting list talk with us every day about stagnation in public housing allocations and transfers.
In relation to new households assisted with public housing we have seen a clear decline over the last two years from 4,050 to 3,695. So people in need who want to access the system can’t get in.
Equally, public housing transfers are becoming harder to get, dropping by over 11% in the last year.
