What is the Tenant Reference Group?
The Victorian Public Tenants Association (VPTA) is the peak body representing people who live in public housing, and those on the waitlist (Victorian Housing Register).
We operate a free and confidential telephone advice line to assist tenants resolve housing issues with the Department of Health and Human Services, and to assist people on the waitlist.
We advocate for improvements to public housing quality and policy, as well as for more public housing, and we also provide ongoing advice to the Department about public housing policy and rules.
The Tenants Reference Group is a group of people who are currently living in public housing, who meet every 4 – 6 weeks with VPTA staff via Zoom to discuss issues linked to public housing in Victoria.
Group members are asked to provide their opinions on important topics to strengthen the VPTA’s advocacy on behalf of all people who live in public housing, with the overall aim of protecting, improving, and growing public housing in Victoria.
Conversation topics are largely guided by what Reference Group members feel is important to discuss, but include things like:
- Overcrowding,
- Maintenance quality and processes, or
- Moving in/Welcome procedures.
Membership of the Tenants Reference Group is voluntary.
