The Victorian Government has today announced a $152 million package as the first step in responding to the specific housing recommendations of the Family Violence Commission.
The package contains $50 million for rapid housing assistance. This will provide 130 new social housing properties as a first stage and headleasing for up to 100 dwellings.
We are encouraged that today’s announcements come barely two weeks after the release of the Family Violence Commission Recommendations.
Delivering up to an additional 130 new social housing homes is a good start. We hope this announcement represents the opening salvo of an integrated affordable housing strategy.
Today’s announcement also confirmed that a Family Violence Housing Assistance Implementation Taskforce will be established, as recommended by the Royal Commission, to provide advice to government on Housing solutions for victims of family violence.
