Today public housing tenants hosted a morning tea in Northcote, inviting their neighbours in to discuss community issues that we all have in common.
The “One Northcote” event was organised by the VPTA and was supported by the Jika Jika Neighbourhood House.
Public tenants welcomed neighbours from private housing into their homes in an effort to break down the barriers between public and private housing.
The Federal Member for Batman, David Feeney, was one of the visitors and welcomed the opportunity to talk with tenants. Tenants told him about the long-years they had spent on the waiting list before being allocated public housing.
The VPTA is planning similar events around the state to reinforce the point that public housing tenants are equally concerned about community issues as their private housing neighbours.
